Please Read Our Contract Terms
For your convenience, we are including this list of standard business practices so that you will be prepared for your discussion of fees and other conditions with the Interpreter you will be hiring. These business practices are generally followed by independent contract interpreters across the United States, with some variation. However, each Interpreter who is a member of this Association is an independent business owner and as such has the ability to set terms and conditions for their own business practices. Our hope is that this list will help clarify your expectations for your dialog with the interpreter.
Guidelines for Interpreters/Industry Standards
Assignments are invoiced at a set up fee equivalent to two hours and are billed at half hour increments thereafter.
Differentials, travel time and mileage may apply depending on nature of asignment, length of notice, length of travel and various other reasons. Rates are discussed at time of acceptance.
Due to the nature or length of assignments a second interpreter is often required. This is discussed with the interpreter at the time of acceptance.
Assignments cancelled with less than 2 business days notice are invoiced at the full amount of the scheduled assignment. Differentials and travel time (if deemed necessary) also apply.
Assignments are invoiced for the full length of scheduled time. If an assignment ends early, starts late or has breaks, the full amount of blocked time will be invoiced.
If one or more parties for a scheduled assignment fails to show up and the assignment is unable to continue, the assignment will be invoiced at the full scheduled amount. Interpreters will wait an adequate amount of time relative to the length of the assignment before leaving the premises.
Invoice due dates will be discussed with the interpreter at the time of acceptance. Late fees for past due invoices may apply.
